THE ONE MAN VARIANT
This wonderful example of the One Man Variant came from Aberystwyth. The eye is immediately drawn to the eccentric posture of the man in the hat. One Man Variants are perhaps the trickiest of the Transformationalist Postcards to spot (consult the advice page for the common pitfalls) and arguments have raged about the next example. Many people claim that a true Transformationalist Postcard cannot include women, but this is errant nonsense. Some also maintain that this is just an example of `the reckless man`, but the woman (in the hat) is actually crossing the street in an exaggerated manner and is also being watched by the group on the right (much as the Aberystwyth man is the centre of attention) and so for me this is Transformationalist.
A final example, and another source of much controversy. At first glance one might take the peculiar activity of the figures wrapped around the lamp-post on the right to be the centre of attention. However, when examined with transformationalist eyes, these japes are merely there to highlight the static posture of the man with the bundle under his arm on the extreme right. He is the `One Man` in this particular example of the `Variant`.
